Fig Tree Pocket
About the Project
2009 HIA Award Winner for homes over $1,000,000 for the Brisbane/Toowoomba region.
Fig Tree Pocket has and the air of being in the country while only minutes from the city. For this reason the client wanted to make the most of their site by framing north facing views across parkland with large expanses of glazed walls and striking outdoor spaces.
Teenage boys also needed to be accommodated in the same space as their parents, so strategies were put into place to create a sense of separation and ownership. A double height gallery space was designed to create the necessary buffer zone between the bedroom zones.
On the lower level the living areas fan out to create separate formal and informal living areas. The formal living areas have views across the pool to the parkland, while the informal living areas have a direct link to the double height Sala and pool.
On the lower level a separate guest suite is also accommodated neatly tucked behind the formal living areas. Directly opposite the dining area is a fully automated family sized cinema room.
All living areas were orientated to the north to enable better passive control of the sun throughout the year.
Included in the home are 5 bedrooms (including a guest suite), formal and inform living areas, gallery space and media room, four car garage (with workshop) and the signature double height Sala space. The completed house has had rave reviews from the clients, which is what makes it all worthwhile.
